We keep this short and plain. This website is a set of static pages: there is no login, no user account and no database.

Who runs this website

Yesterday's Reasons (yesterdaysreasons.com) is run by the independent creator of the Yesterday's Reasons YouTube channel. You can reach us through the contact page.

When you visit a page

The site is hosted on a server of Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany. Like every web server, it writes a short log entry for each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page and your browser type. We use these logs only to keep the site running and secure. They are deleted automatically after 14 days.

We set no cookies and load our fonts from our own server rather than from Google. To count visits, we use Matomo, a statistics tool that runs on our own server in Germany. It works without cookies, shortens your IP address before anything is stored, and shares nothing with anyone else.

Videos

Each story has its video from our YouTube channel. Until you press play, you only see a picture from our own server and nothing is loaded from YouTube. When you press play, the player loads from YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain (youtube-nocookie.com), run by Google Ireland Limited. From then on, YouTube receives your IP address and may store information in your browser, as described in Google's privacy policy.

Contact form

If you write to us through the contact form, your name, email address and message are sent to us by email through Formspree, a form service run by Formspree, Inc. in the United States; see Formspree's privacy policy. After you press send, Formspree may show a short check against spam robots (Google reCAPTCHA) on its own page. We use your message only to answer you and delete it when it is no longer needed.

Advertising

There is no advertising on this site yet. We plan to show a small number of ads from Google AdSense. Before any ads appear, this page will be updated, and visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland will first be asked for their consent through a Google-certified consent message.

Our stories link to their sources. When you follow such a link, the other website's own privacy policy applies.

Your rights

Under data-protection law such as the GDPR, you can ask us what data we hold about you, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. You can also object to its use and complain to a data-protection authority. Write to us through the contact page.
